If I learn programming, what jobs can I find in the future? Maybe someone wants to build a robot and doesn’t want to design a website or application. Is web design the inevitable destiny of all those who learn one or more programming languages? Does that mean they can’t have another job?

The idea that programming and programming languages are only useful for a website or application design is a very, very wrong idea. Programming languages are diverse and some of them are very specialized. For example, the R programming language is a language for statisticians and cannot be used to design a website. There is another powerful and popular language that if someone learns, great job opportunities await him in various fields.

Python language is a language with various applications. Python may be the back-end programming language of a website or a language for artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithm development. Python language is also used in data science and data analysis. One of the very good job opportunities that can be obtained by learning the Python language is the job of a Data Scientist.

In this article, I will talk about this job and tell you who is a data specialist. what does it do And how much does a data specialist earn?

Who is a Data Scientist?

Before I talk about this job and specialization, I must say what data science is and why it is important. We live in a world of information and data. Production and transmission of information have never been possible with this speed and ease in human history. In recent years, tools for collecting and analyzing information and data have made significant progress. Various sciences and industries and businesses use this huge amount of data for their benefit and to improve the quality of their services and products.

By analyzing the data obtained from customers’ behavior, their behavior can be easily predicted. For many large businesses and multinational companies, the results obtained from data analysis are the basis for micro and macro decisions. So, data analysis gives predictive power to people in different fields (even politicians).

Data science is the domain of study that deals with vast volumes of data using modern tools and techniques to find unseen patterns, derive meaningful information, and make business decisions. Data science uses complex machine learning algorithms to build predictive models.

Now, according to the definition of data science, it can be said who is a data expert. A data scientist is someone who tries to understand a phenomenon by analyzing data, predicting it, and helping businesses make more accurate and realistic decisions (based on the results of the analysis).

What are the duties of a data specialist?

The job of a data specialist is to read and understand data. To read and understand data, data scientists usually undertake the following tasks:

  • Data professionals turn a team or business problem into a question. Then they go to the data to find that question. So, the most general task of a data specialist is problem-solving. This is why businesses want data experts. A data scientist helps businesses solve their problems.
  • The data scientist must know what data to collect to solve the problem. So, the second task of a data specialist is to collect raw data, which may be structured or unstructured (Data Acquisition or Data Extraction). Of course, the task of data collection has another important step and it is associated with converting raw data into usable formats (Data Processing).
  • Now it’s time to categorize and analyze the data (Data Classification). His third task is to analyze classified data and extracted statistics to find patterns and useful information for problem-solving. In the continuation of this stage, he should make predictive models using the results of the analysis (Data Modeling).
  • The last task of the data scientist is to provide the team with the answer to the problem and the results of all analyzes and reviews in a visualized way (Data Visualization & Data Reporting). One of the duties of a data specialist is to interact with the team and decision-makers in the business. When he arrives at an answer, he should provide it in the form of a diagram, chart, or any other format that is understandable to others so that they can use the results of his work and make the necessary decisions.

What skills does a data specialist need?

A data specialist needs a variety of skills to perform each of his tasks, which are usually multi-step. Because the work and expertise of a data scientist is an interdisciplinary specialty (Statistics & IT & Business). The skills that a data specialist need is:

  • Soft skills, including problem-solving, communication skills, and constructive collaboration and interaction with the team and business economic decision makers (the data specialist must be able to clearly and ultimately transparently convey the results of his analysis to others);
  • Python, R, SQL & SAS programming languages.
  • Machine learning and deep learning (the data scientist needs artificial intelligence and machine learning and deep learning algorithms to build models that predict phenomenon, or user/customer, behavior.);
  • Statistics and mathematics (data specialist deals with statistics and figures. He needs to find patterns in statistics and figures. The data to be examined in data science is quantitative and numerical data.).

How is the income and job market of data science?

An average data scientist in the US earns $117,000 per year. Of course, that figure is higher for seasoned data professionals, at $151,000. If we look at the list of the best jobs in America, Data Scientist is ranked third. It is quite natural and logical that in the industrialized countries and large economies of the world, which are home to huge multinational companies and businesses, there are very good data market specialists.
