What is Google Bard? How does it work How is it different from ChatGPT? Which one is better? Do Google Bard and GPT Chat have other competitors? Finally, where will the competition of technology giants in the field of artificial intelligence reach and where will it take the world?
On November 30, 2022, OpenAI introduced its new product, ChatGPT, to the world. A smart chatbot that answers your and mine questions almost like a human and can help programmers in coding. In February 2023, Google unveiled its intelligent chatbot called Bard.
Of course, Microsoft did not lag behind this competition and came to the field with Microsoft Bing. The competition of the world’s technology giants is concentrated in which field: artificial intelligence. A competition that affects our future humans and causes many changes in the world.
This content is about Google Bard and its competition with ChatGPT and answers the above questions.

What is Google Bard?
Compared to its competitors, Google has invested more than 30 billion dollars in the development of artificial intelligence in its products. Facebook is the second and Amazon is the third largest company in the world investing in this field. The first and most important application of artificial intelligence is to improve the performance of the Google search engine. In this application, the user does not interact directly with artificial intelligence and may not feel its presence at all.
The second application is Google Assistant, which is Google’s all-in-one personal assistant. In this application, users directly interact with Google’s artificial intelligence. But the number of these users is small. With the introduction of the third application, all Google users will soon be able to talk to Google’s artificial intelligence.
Google Bard is Google’s smart chatbot and works just like ChatGPT. Users ask it questions and the chatbot writes the answer. Google Bard interacts with him in natural language (human language and not machine language) and enters into a conversation. For example, the user may ask him to give him advice and suggestions about buying a car.
Of course, as you can see in the second picture, Google Bard is completely experimental, and users over 18 years old in 180 countries have free access to it. Also, this chatbot can speak 46 languages.
How does Google Bard work?
Artificial intelligence chatbots are capable of natural language understanding (NLU) and natural language processing (NLP). They use a type of artificial intelligence called Generative AI. This type of artificial intelligence can produce new content (text, photos, etc.). Generative artificial intelligence is built on machine learning and deep learning models. So, building and teaching chatbots without machine learning and deep learning and reading Python programming language, is not possible.
Professionals and engineers first build large language models (LLM or Large Language Models) and train them with huge sets of linguistic data. These are language models that make it possible to build chatbots like Google Bard. Google Bard is built using the Language Model for Dialogue Applications or LaMDA, which is the result of Google’s years of research in the field of artificial intelligence, deep learning, and natural language processing.
The language model itself is built with a kind of neural network architecture called Transformer. Transformer also belongs to Google and is the result of this company’s research, which was made available to the public (open source) in 2017. The GPT-3 language model with which ChatGPT is built uses the same neural network architecture.
Bard uses a huge source of content and data from all over the internet to answer questions. Also, it tries to understand the user’s intention from the question and give him the most suitable answer. Bard makes searching on Google easier and faster, and it has been said that Google Bard is the future of Google’s search engine.
What are the applications of Google’s artificial intelligence chatbot?
It answers almost any question. He writes an article. Advises the user. Offers. It tells the problems of the codes. It explains codes and can even code. Every application that Google has in our daily life, Google Bard may also have. Just keep in mind that Google Bard, just like other smart chatbots, may give wrong answers. Google has also warned about this and asked users not to consider Bard’s answers completely correct.
Unfortunately, Google Bard gave a wrong answer to a question in the first days when it was just introduced, and this mistake made headlines and caused the stock of Alphabet, which is a subsidiary of Google, to fall by $100 billion. In the video they made to introduce Bard, it was asked, “Which discoveries of the James Webb telescope can you tell a 9-year-old boy?” One of the answers was that James Webb took the first picture of planets outside the solar system. Immediately, the astronauts announced on Twitter that this answer was wrong and that Google Bard was making up its answer and distorting the facts.
Google’s competitors are many
GPT is not the only competitor of Google Bard Chat. Every day, the number of intelligent chatbots and artificial intelligence tools in various fields is increasing. No company wants to be left behind in this market and competition. The most important competitors of Google Bard Phrases:
- Microsoft Bing: The most similar chatbot to Google Bard and works exactly like a search engine.
- ChatSonic: This chatbot has introduced itself as an alternative to ChatGPT.
- Jasper Chat: This smart chatbot is a copywriting tool and generates promotional texts.
- YouChat: This chatbot belongs to the German search engine You.com. Its interesting feature is that the sources tell their answers.
Google Bard vs. ChatGPT
Which one is better? ChatGPT or Google Bard, or can it even be said that, for example, Microsoft Bing is better than both? This question cannot be answered. Each has its characteristics and some users may prefer Google Bard to ChatGPT or vice versa. But it is possible to point out some obvious differences between Google Bard and ChatGPT:
- Google Bard is completely free, but the more advanced and smarter version of ChatGPT is not free and you need to buy a monthly subscription to use it.
- Google Bard has more possibilities. For example, it reads the answers or has a voice ask the question instead of typing it. Also, there is an option to Google the answer and another option to moderate the answers (i.e. provide the user with several possible answers for each question).
